3rd Annual Chelan Sidecar Rally, Chelan, WA
I have booked site 32 at the Chelan State Park for the rally, the nights of 19, 20 and 21 May 2011. I will have one tent, for myself. I understand two more tents can be on the site; if split three ways (my, and two other tents) the charge for each tent would be only $31.00 each tent. I'll be a single rider with my wing/kenna rig; first time at this rally. I'll be riding from North Seattle (Greenwood Ave N) on the 19th and would be happy to join others going to Chelan. Mike

TURD Rally, TX - May 2011
We have been invited to join the Texas Ural Riders Division (the T.U.R.D.'s) of the Soviet Steeds for their spring muster (a/k/a the Spring T.U.R.D.) at the Rusk Texas KOA Friday-Sunday, May 13-15, 2011.

A rally fee is not planned. Please make you own camping lodging reservations. It appears there are three motels in Rusk should the KOA not be suitable.

No specific rally plans have been set yet, but I suspect we will try to cook on the grounds one evening along with a Ride to Eat somewhere -- the 7th Street Restaurant in Cushing has a good chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes & gravy.

Also, the Texas State Railroad is in Rusk as well, along with a couple of unique/historical sites.

Spring in Moab April, 2011 Rally
The campground we stay at is the Archview Resort, North of Moab on 191. URL http://www.archviewresort.com/index.html I always go the last week of April with the big car show being the last weekend of April, http://www.moabaprilaction.com/ ,the car show weekend is a busy weekend and things will start booking up fast. This is a very busy weekend and special prices and rules apply so make sure you call and book instead of relying on the online booking.

Sunday April 24th until Sunday April 30th. The car show in the park is Saturday April 29th.

This is my Spring break after working all Winter and there is no real organization to it. It is not a rally or anything of the sort but there are getting to be a lot of Urals that are showing up along with an assortment of dirt bikes and such. I have a veritable plethora of maps and books and trail information that is available to any who would like it and I welcome all who wish to ride with me if they would like.

More information to come but it never hurts to get an early start if you are thinking of coming, you can always cancel a reservation but once they are full you can't book one.

If you would like to see some pictures of past years in Moab feel free to peruse these:

Annual Marrowstone Island Ural Invasion, WA - June 2011
It's that time of year again to start thinking of a June Weekend (24, 25, 26) on the shores of Puget Sound with a bunch of foilheads. Russ Noe has turned the handlebars over to me to be contact person on this always great endeavor.

The Pacific NorthWet Pod is returning to Marrowstone
Island at the "Ecologic Place," on the south end of the
Island, right on the water.
http://www.ecologicplace.com/index.htm

Dates: June 24-26, 2011, Friday - Sunday. (Some of us come up on Thursday)

Marrowstone is just 2 hours from Seattle, including the
ferry ride. There are excellent local rides to go on, and
historic places to visit including towns and former WW I
forts.

We have again arranged with the owners of the Beach
Cottages, Steve and Allison Willing, for use of the entire
place: all the cabins plus the central
meeting/cooking/dining area. There are beds for 29+
people. Cots for sleeping baggers are possible. Limited
tent camping will be allowed, as this is outside the normal
operations of “The Ecologic Place,” same as last year.
However, Steve and Allison have always been wonderful
about accommodating our Pacific NorthWet Pod.
Remember that this is a bird sanctuary, and we are the
ONLY group of bikers ever allowed into their place. So far,
they LIKE us, as do a number of their Neighbors and
Friends!!

Please call Steve or Allison at 800-871-3077 to make
your arrangements for accommodations. They are
collecting cabin reservations (some are already reserved),
and can guide you in your choices. If all the cabins are
already reserved, Steve/Allison can tell you which ones
have bed space remaining, and who you should contact.
Expect to share facilities as required. This has always
been part of the fun of this trip! Each cabin group will
work their shared costs among themselves.

Costs:
-We are each responsible for our own cabin costs.
Whoever has the cabin in their name is responsible for the
costs, so collect them from your cabin-mates.
-Friday night's traditional dinner expense at the Ajax Cafe
will be your $ responsibility. Expect something around
$30 per person.
- Unless something changes, the central meeting/eating
area will cost our group $300 for the three days. We need
to fully clean the Hall on Sunday, before we leave.
-Food will be a group effort, both purchasing and
cooking, as in previous years.
-Saturday night, I will post the Per Person Costs due for
the Hall plus the food. You can settle up then.

Schedule:
Friday, June 24: Arrive at Marrowstone, by whatever means
possible: Bikes, Boats, Cars, Planes, Scooters, Feet, etc.

Friday evening: Group dinner at the Ajax Café, just a 10
minute bike ride from the Cottages. Probably around 7:30
pm, again.
http://www.ajaxcafe.com/

Saturday, June 25: Crawl out of bed, hope that some
earlier riser makes us all coffee, cook breakfast, ride
bikes, eat lunch, ride bikes, shop, and finally create BIG
Saturday Seafood Feast and Celebration.

Sunday, June 26: Repeat all activities as necessary, leave
The Ecologic Place clean, and try to return home safely.

In short: Eat, ride, eat, sleep, REPEAT…

To make this happen, please do the following:
1) Call Steve or Allison at Marrowstone Beach Cottages to
make your cabin reservations. See their website (above)
for contact info.
2) RSVP to Doug Soderland sidecardoug@juno.com that you
are joining the PNWet Pod on this adventure. I need to
“manage the numbers.”
3) RSVP to Doug Soderland to attend the Friday night dinner at
the Ajax Cafe.

Thanks all, for past years’ outstanding Marrowstone Island
adventures. Here comes another one!

Upcoming URAL Book by Kevin Clemens
In addition to being a Ural owner (1999 Ural Bavarian Classic), I'm
also a publisher of automotive and motorcycling books. See my
company, Demontreville Press, Inc at www.demontrevillepress.com

When I got my Ural I immediately decided to buy every book about
Urals that I could find. Guess what, there isn't much. Being an
opportunistic sort, it seemed like a really good chance to write a
book (I've authored six myself with another two on the way) about
Urals. It will be split into three sections: History, Fun with Urals,
and Basic Upkeep and Maintenance. I've already spoken with the folks
in Washington State and they've promised to help with their archives
and tech assistance and I've spoken with Felicia and she is
enthusiastic for the project. I'll also, coincidentally be in Siberia
this summer and will stop by Irbit for a tour of the factory.

If this book is to be of value to current and prospective Ural
owners, it would be good to have some real world experience and some
trip and ride reports as a part of the second section. Photos (high
resolution) will also help make the book (I am planning on large
format four-color). Also, little tricks to keeping a Ural on the road
would be good to have as a part of the third section. You can help.
If you have ideas or ride stories or just great photos, contact me at
publisher@demontrevillepress.com and let me know what you have and
how you would like to help.

Cheers!
